After a term of hard work and practice, last Thursday night at the Uxbridge Theatre saw Year 11 drama students perform on stage a play directed by Mr Roberson, their drama teacher. Everything went smoothly and it was a great experience for the students to perform in front of a big audience.

We gathered together as a faith and school community to celebrate our annual Easter liturgy.

After 40 days of having to give something up or do something a little bit extra, the school is encouraging both student and staff members to use Easter as a time to reflect and realise that doing something extra should be done all year round and that we should be grateful for what we have no matter what.

The term almost finished, the show must go on, as the Year 12 and 13 drama students had the opportunity to perform the plays that they had worked on all of Term 1.

Each year group did their own individual plays, and everyone was able to take part performing onstage in front of an audience at Uxbridge Theatre.

On Thursday, two Year 10 Art classes took a trip to the Auckland Art Gallery. The gallery was filled with a variety of different types of art, allowing the students to explore a wide range of exhibits.

With the arrival of autumn, term 1 is comes to an end. Sadly, the Thai Study Group will be returning to Thailand during the term break. Sancta Maria College held a shared lunch on Thursday, to farewell them and to show our appreciation.

Clive Luna (Y12) won two Under-17 badminton titles recently. He claimed the Boy’s Singles and Boy’s Doubles titles at the 2019 Auckland Under-17 Open Tournament held at the Auckland Badminton Stadium (Gillies Ave). He also reached the semi-finals in the Mixed-Doubles event.

Run by the LOGOS team, the Year 9 Retreat was filled with three activities involving teamwork, problem solving and reflection. Since the theme was ‘Filter’, we were split into 6 groups, from ‘F’ to ‘R’ to complete the challenges.

Time goes by in a blink of an eye. The Thai Study Group has already been at Sancta Maria College for two weeks! During the two weeks, the Thai students enthusiastically participated in lessons with our students and showed a willingness to gain an understanding of NZ culture.

Sancta Maria College’s Equestrian Team competed in the Waiuku College Equestrian Event last week. As opposed to an ODE (One Day Event), the teams had the opportunity to choose which category they wanted to compete in.

Last Wednesday, Quintin Wong competed in the Auckland School Swimming Championships held at West Wave, Aquatic Centre in Henderson. The day was full of challenges to overcome, but Quintin was able to qualify 11th for both events. Quintin managed to finish 9th for backstroke with a time of 32.12, and 6th for breaststroke with a time of 35.96.
