The boys had a great win on Saturday vs Mission Heights. Batting first we made our way to a total of 86 thanks to an excellent 22 from Jonathon Aviet, helped by Jayden Corriera who scored 16 runs.

On Tuesday, Year 10 art students explored the Auckland Art Gallery to further develop their art skills. During this outing, students were given time to complete a walkabout of the gallery and examine its artworks. This included multiple pieces by New Zealand artist Louise Henderson, whose work was intricate, colourful, and thought provoking, as well as crowd favourite, DiscoVerry, an interactive piece allowing students to dance to disco music in a brightly lit environment.
Last Friday was a special day for the Year 13 Sancta Maria College international students – their graduation. For many, it seemed like just yesterday when these young excited students from other countries came to Sancta Maria College for the very first time. The start of many journeys began as early as Year 8, meeting new people, learning new things and experiencing a lifetime opportunity up until their graduation ceremony.

Last Friday we took our Y7/8 Girls and boys touch rugby teams to Pakuranga Rugby Club for the South Eastern Zone competition. The teams had been training hard and we’re optimistic for some good performances. Our girls’ and boys’ teams both overachieved and reached our highest positions for the tournaments with two second places, just missing out on qualifying for Auckland interzone champs.
As the summer break draws closer, the library is carrying out the annual ‘Summer Reading’ programme in which students returning to Sancta Maria College next year can take out up to ten books to read during the summer holidays.

Our tennis teams played on Saturday for their 2nd round of games at Sancta Maria College. Both teams lost but their effort and commitment cannot be doubted. Training is every Thursday morning 7am-8am and we are still looking for more girls to play in the team.

A really good effort by everyone in the field applied pressure to the Sacred Heart batsmen and helped effect 4 run outs. Combined with 1 wicket a piece for Laurence Stewart, Aniseto Pasileo and Oscar Stewart the opposition were restricted to 127 for 7 from their 20 overs at the crease.

While most students will be spending their summer lying around at home, Year 12 student Alyx Bolivar has an overseas scholarship waiting for her: a 12 day study tour to Tokyo, Japan. From December 7 – 18, she will be experiencing life as a typical Japanese student, living with a host family and attending a host school – all fully funded except for the air fare.

The SMC Junior Girls Volleyball B Team – “Sancta Maria Gold” – have been training incredibly hard since Term 3 to compete in the College Sport Eastern Zone Competition. Despite most of the girls being new to volleyball, in their five games so far they have displayed great determination, teamwork, and resilience, and have been able to hold their own.
