Sean Hancock is the student mastermind behind the recently formed Outdoor Club. Reporter Kayleigh Pieters interviewed Sean to find out what is happening and what are the plans for the future.

The school community gathered together in faith to observe the beginning of the Lenten season yesterday by celebrating Ash Wednesday. It was yet another successful and eye-opening experience.

Mrs Stickland, Mrs Redwood and ten students took a 6:30 am flight to Wellington. These students were up bright and early to prepare themselves for an eventful day.

Saturday, February 23 was not a day for sleeping in for Sancta Maria College’s Enviro Team – in fact, quite the opposite. Accompanied by Mrs Colmer and Mrs McCreath, these students spent the morning at Bunnings Botany Ti Rakau, feeding shoppers with delicious home-baked goods and raising $565 to go towards building a butterfly garden at school to attract butterflies and hopefully help the declining population.

In addition to December of last year’s Peer Support training, this year saw Year 11 and Year 12 Peer Support Student Leaders busily attending their after-school Peer Support training workshops in Week 2, 3 and 4.

As you make your way through the Auditorium of Sancta Maria College, it won’t be long until you find yourself gazing at the many names etched onto the Sancta Maria College Honours boards. Names of students who have inspired, created and left a legacy for those after them to follow. And as your eyes begin to scan, you’ll notice a name that is up there in four different years. That name being Tysha Ikenasio.

Imagine waking up to the crashing sound of waves and the smell of sea salt drifting through the air. As the morning sun shines through your zipped-up tent the sound of morning breakfast sizzles in a frying pan. Well for our Year 12 PE Studies class and four of the PE teachers, living in this day dream became their reality for four days as they embarked on an exhilarating and very salty experience, whilse camping at Tawharanui.

On March 3, three Sancta Maria College students competed in the annual weekend debating competition organised by Auckland Schools Debating. These 3 students are Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg, Kelly Mascarenhas and Zoe Chou.
