Year 7 student Tayler Payne’s last big meeting in the Vortex Mini ROK took place in Tokoroa over the weekend. He finished the Top Half Series 2nd overall with his two podium finishes being 1st place in Auckland and a 3rd in Tokoroa.

An idea from Year 10 student Sean Hancock has taken one step further to becoming a reality. A keen explorer of the outdoors Sean has gained a range of qualifications and experience from participating in adventure activities from climbing to kayaking. He approached Mr Ryan Camp, PE teacher and Year 8 Dean, with a proposal to form a Sancta Maria College Rock Climbing and Tramping club.

The Supercars Students on Track programme was a great opportunity for teachers and students to spend a day trackside at the Pukekohe Raceway ITM Event. Students were able to go trackside to watch the drivers, engineers and team owners run through their paces and get the cars ready for racing.

Tunes ranging from ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ from Harry Potter (performed by Rohan Rodriques) to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s ‘Rondo Alla Turca’ (played by Sean Wang) showcased the blossoming talents of our young piano players.

For two Year 7 classes, P.E. started off with a bang. Mr. Marnewick from NZ Rugby was teaching 7LIS and 7DNN some fun and exciting games like ‘rob the nest’ and ‘rat, rabbit and rhino’ in the gym.

Year 11 student, Clive Luna has been named as a finalist for the College Sport Auckland Young Sportsperson of the Year (YSPOTY) Awards. He is one of three students selected from all male secondary school badminton players. This is a massive achievement for anyone but it’s even more significant considering he’s only 15 years old.

You have all been reading interesting articles on our website as well as Facebook page. Articles that have kept you posted on current events and happenings at SMC.  We have a great News Centre Team that brings you the latest news but behind them all is one big driving force, someone who inspires, motivates and encourages the team to bring out the best in them – Mr. Saunders.  He works silently and tirelessly behind the scenes, giving up his precious time and making sure that all the News Centre work is edited and well co-ordinated. These stories also feed into the College Year Book, which he has been collating and editing since 2006 (with the exception of 2017).
