Anais Bebelman (centre front row) won gold in the Grade 6 group for rhythmic gymnastics at the 2019 NZ Gymnastics Championships. This is currently the highest competitive grade in NZ. She also placed 4th in all four of her individual apparatus and 4th overall for Junior International.

Over the break Stepan Kadlcik (Year 9) competed at Advanced Novice level at the NZ Ice Figure Skating Championships in Gore. Despite injuring his knee only a few days before the championship, he put all his effort into this competition. Stepan performed two solid programmes and achieved his personal best score, placing second.

There’s something special about the Cultural Festival that brings everyone together from different ethnicities and backgrounds to celebrate on one day. This year’s Festival, to be held on Friday, October 18, will be a Cultural Mufti Day with a Traditional Costume Fashion Show, music and guest performances during the school day. These will be the build up to food stalls and performances in the evening.

Our 1st XI girls’ hockey team has arrived back from the Mary Clinton tournament in Whanganui. The team represented their school proudly by always supporting their teammates and opposing players, whether the score went their way or not, Sancta Maria was always the happiest team on the turf. Overall the team became closer both on and off the turf, forming a stronger more resilient team which promises a great season next year.

Drumroll! Two teams, 8B and 7A received their trophy’s at the HPNC netball prizegiving. They were invited to attend the prizegiving after a tough netball season placed them in the top 2 of their flight. The girls were beaming as the cameras captured the moment – celebrating the fruition of all their practice and hard work.
Day 5 of the UNISS tournament concluded with SMC’s netball premier team taking out two wins! The team were playing for a position between 17th-20th and it was results against the teams in their pool that would determine those positions.

Last Thursday, Year 11 Art students attended the Pah Homestead to visit the Exhibitions organised by the Wallace Arts Trust. Some of the exhibitions we were very interested in were the Toot Floor by Campbell Patterson, Digital Bodies created by AUT students and more specifically Andrea du Chatenier’s sculpture exhibition. When looking through the different artworks we were shown many different aspects of art.
