Matthew 25:40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. ‘”
On 7 August 2024, students, caregivers and teachers gathered at Christ the King Catholic Church, Owairaka to celebrate the annual Caring Foundation Mass, celebrated by Bishop Steven Lowe.
Initiated by the Catholic Caring Foundation, who’s vision is to have a society where everyone is treated with mana, and that everyone gets the right care and support they need. No matter the class, ethnicity, sex, or creed, the foundation has a mission to fulfil Jesus’ Commandment “Love your Neighbour”.
Every year, the mass strives to recognise and give thanks to the ‘givers’ in our diocese, those wanting to assist to improve our communities. It also gave students and teachers the opportunity to open our hearts and minds to the most vulnerable in society.
During the mass, ‘Caring Awards’ were presented; to those who show the most commitment and drive to care and make a difference to their communities. Six students from Sancta Maria College were nominated and received the Caring Award. The students nominated were Kathrina Bacay, Hannah Ernstzen, Jermaine Daclan, Abigail Martis, Ethan Karl and Hyebeen Park. Each student nominated demonstrated our values and behaviour encompassing the mission and vision that the Catholic Caring Foundation live by every day.
