The retreat theme “A Friend in Me” had an amazing impact on the Year 8s. There were various activities including group work. We learnt how every member of a group is useful and it is hard to communicate when someone is blindfolded, mute, handicapped or tied together.

Sancta Maria netball teams gave their best defensively and in attack, supporting one another in defence and working their way down the court to score goals against the opposition team.

The ball was swiftly going from end to end with the crowd roaring loudly as Sancta Maria junior teams took to the courts on Saturday.

The U19 Premier Boys Basketball Team will be taking on Rosehill College next Tuesday in the School Gym with tip off at 5pm. The two sides will be fighting for third place in the Counties Manukau Open A Grade.

This week marked the first week of the six-week programme that will see girls at Sancta Maria College get the chance to get involved in basketball, learn skills, and be trained by veterans of the game.

This was the question Year 11 students were asked to think about while on their annual Retreat Day. Held at Willow Park it gave them the opportunity to have a day off-campus developing their relationship with God.

The Sancta Maria College A1 team of Ryan Kuang, Oscar Ng, Henry Hoh, and Clive Luna had a convincing win in the first round of this year’s competition.

While the other Year 8 classes were having their retreat, 8LIS and 8GNS were enjoying a bunch of activities organised by the Year 10 middle school leaders. There were five different activities which included; Academic, Cultural, Wellbeing, Performing Arts and Sport. Each activity lasted one hour.

Our students from the Music Department participated in the annual Auckland Schools Jazz Band competition, held at the Point Chevalier RSA. The competition is organised by the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club, Stephen Morton-Jones and Peter McGregor Music Bass Shop and is open to all schools across Auckland.

On Tuesday morning, Sancta Maria College welcomed a group of Chinese students who have come from Shanghai Jincai Experimental Junior Middle School. It is a school located in Pudong New District, Shanghai, China with a roll of approximately 1,300 students. From there, we have 31 students visiting who are a similar age to our Year 7 & 8 students, and who are going to stay at Sancta Maria College for 1 week.
