The second year of our in-house debating competition saw Ethan Rogacion, Joseph George and Jamie Nguyen win the top prize.
Last year senior students Cuan Pillay and Julia Tenedero set out to develop the skill of debating in the Year 7 and 8 area of the school. Now in its second year the competition attracted about 20 students who divided themselves into four teams.
During terms 1 and 2 debates took place fortnightly after school. These were adjudicated by experienced Year 13 debaters. After six rounds of competition the top two teams with the most points qualified for the final. Topics debated related to current news and issues such as ‘We should abolish prison cells’.
Teams ranged from four to six in number though only three were allowed to take part in any debate.
The final was held in front of an audience including parents of the speakers.
