With only a week to go before he begins his final study leave at Sancta Maria College, Vincent Brzozowski is signing off from us with a musical flourish. As a trumpeter, he has recently been in Christchurch rehearsing and performing with the National Secondary Schools’ Brass Band, whilst only last week he was at the Raye Freedman Arts Centre, representing the school at the Ronisch Auckland Secondary Schools’ Piano Competition.
This prestigious competition is a great test of pianistic skill and Vincent performed Bach’s Prelude in A minor, Liszt’s Les Cloches de Geneve and Messaien’s dissonant Premiere Communion de la Vierge. These three pieces allowed him to show off his ability in a diverse range of styles and the judges were impressed enough to award him the Newcomer Award.
This marks a fitting end to Vincent’s time at Sancta Maria College, where he has been a highly valued member of the school’s Music Department.
