We welcomed six new international students from China into our school whānau and two new international homestay co-ordinators (Aimee Wang and Carmen McKnight), at the beginning of term 2 – please make them feel welcome as you see them in school. The students are:
- Bernice (Zeyang) Liu
- Celia (Zhenyue) Yuan
- Roxy (Ruoqui) Yin
- Vicky (Yuyan) Ding
- Willima (Mingzhi) Wei
- Kokomi Hiza
During the term, we also had a group of 30 students from Jia Xing (our sister school in China) spend just three days in our Year 10 classes.
They were formally welcomed into and whānau with a mihi whakatau by our kapa haka students and Principal, Ms Moore – Ms Moore and their Deputy Principal also exchanged gifts. The students quickly immersed themselves in New Zealand culture and life both at school and with their homestay families – some students even made pavlova on their first day with us. We farewelled them in the beaming sun on Wednesday 22 May 2024 and wished them well in their travels down to Rotorua and back home to China. We hope to see some return as full-time students in the future.
In addition, we also said a fond farewell to Prim Leelasiriwanich at the end of May as she returned to university studies in Thailand – she first joined us in 2019 for short term study and then returned for full time study in 2023.
