Local schools combine talents to help others

Head boy, Maurice de Jesus (pictured third from right), has been working with student leaders from east Auckland schools to organise fundraising initiatives across the region. This included volunteer work with Auckland City Mission, packing food parcels.

Other actions have seen everything from mufti days to blanket drives used to raise money for a variety of good causes.

The highlight was working alongside other head students together with members from the Howick Youth Council, to host a Charity Concert on Thursday August 1 to raise money for Mike King’s `I Am Hope’ Foundation. This organisation helps Kiwi kids get free mental health counselling and support.

Featuring music ensembles and dance groups from all nine schools, this was also a great opportunity to showcase young local talent.

There was an amazing turnout, with over 250 tickets sold. Along with a generous donation from Hynds Foundation, the event raised a total of $2450 for ‘I Am Hope’.
