Our school has held its first-ever Matariki Liturgy in the Auditorium on Tuesday after assembly!
The liturgy began with an explanation of Matariki by Mr. Bacon followed by the opening prayer by Mr. Tamayo. The readings were led by students with Maori descent. There was also a procession of 9 candles to symbolise the 9 stars of the Matariki cluster along with explanations about each of the stars and what they represent. This was also related to the different values that we, students are encouraged to practise. Our homeroom teachers then distributed glow sticks to us so we could wave them in the air as we sing a waiata, O Hana Maria. The lights in the Auditorium were turned off to allow our glow sticks could shine.. It is a time for us to remember the past, prepare for the future, celebrate the present and care of the environment. The liturgy concluded with an amazing performance from the school’s Kapa Haka group.
Mānawatia a Matariki!
