Why does Sancta Maria College hold their annual Purple Cupcake Day fundraiser, run by a group of keen Year 10 French students? The answer is the funds raised go towards supporting and increasing the quality of education for hundreds of children living in poverty in Kenya, Nepal and Haiti.
How does this happen?
The day begins with students from all year levels bringing dazzling sprinkled cupcakes they baked, into the French room (and they sure looked tempting to eat!).
Then the group of Year 10 French students set up the tables in the courtyard and decorate them with brightly coloured purple table cloths before bringing out the delicious looking cakes that ranged from rich chocolate, red velvet, vanilla and even gluten free.
By the time lunchtime hit, the lines were already queuing, and students faces lit up once they saw the dazzling cupcakes they were so eager to buy.
By the end of lunch the fundraiser had proved a success and we managed to sell all of the cupcakes. In total we raised $573.10!
As a kind and giving school of special character, the purple cupcake day fundraisers are always a good reminder for us to always stay humble and gracious, as we are very fortunate and lucky to receive an excellent education at Sancta Maria College while elsewhere in the world many children are not so fortunate.
