On the 13th of April, during lunch, students went head-to-head to be in the Readers Cup team!
Readers Cup is a Year 9 Competition with teams of four (with one reserve) reading a set of 6 books. They will have to answer questions from these books.
This year, Mrs O’Rorke had the students read three different books, and asked them 6 questions relating to each book. The questions varied in points, but each book had a potential of 10 points to be won.
The first was a short story, Strawberry Lou, written by the New Zealand author Brain Falkner.
The next was a novel written by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse.
The last was ‘The Man with the Yellow Face’, written by Anthony Horrowitz.
With the help of the judges, Mr Lauten, Mrs Al-Rubaie, Mrs Sullivan, and some students, the top 5 students (in no particular order) were chosen to represent Sancta Maria College in the real competition, Jessa Calacsan, Chloe Dangatan, Elizabeth Johnstone, Seline Nevado, and Greer Sullivan.
