Christ the King Primary School, St Mary’s Avondale, St Therese Primary School, and Sancta Maria College came together to celebrate Catholic Schools’ Day; approximately 400 students from the primary schools joined 65 students from Sancta Maria College. This joint celebration of the four Catholic schools was made possible by Christ the King Primary School, who kindly hosted this special day.
The day began with Mass, celebrated by Pa Peter Tipane. Morning tea followed which allowed the students to get to know each other before the workshops which came after. These workshops included: worship band, gospel choir, kapa haka, karakia, physical fun, drama, and cultural dance which included Indian and Polynesian. After a couple of fun filled hours came lunch provided by Christ the King all paid and sponsored by The Mad Butcher.
Sancta Maria College has a previous connection with Christ the King Principal, Tracey Kopua. Tracey Kopua was one of the foundation staff of our College and had been a teacher of the Sancta Maria students who presented the workshops. This was the first time Catholic Schools’ Day was celebrated in this way and it was an absolute success and the day was well received. It was wonderful to have college and primary schools working together.
