Stand Up Stand Out sets our students OUT from the rest

Audrey Basilio

Week 4 of term 3 was a busy week for the music department. Competitions, entertainment and performances are being held everywhere! Fortunately, we had a blessed and fun week attending these annual competitions. Stand Up Stand Out (SUSO) being one of Sancta Maria’s biggest highlights of the year.

Stand up Stand out is a yearly competition that encourages students across Tāmaki Makaurau to share their interests and talents through music. This can help aspiring, young kids grow their confidence, gain helpful feedback for improvements and also make new friends along the way. Luckily, Sancta Maria College has been welcomed back to participate in such events, for many years now.

This year, there were solo vocals and band performances that were presented. Varying within different music styles such as jazz, 2000s nostalgia and punk rock. Entering the semi-finals, Sweeny Cahilig, Milly Corboy, Peach Mango Pie and Chopstix had made an amazing performance to the judges. These performances will soon be held on 31 August, in the Auckland Town Hall

Congratulations to our semi-final winning students and to those who also participated in this competition. It is great seeing people put themselves out there! We also give a huge thanks to teachers and supporters who have made this week enjoyable for the music department. We wish all the best of luck to our fellow semi-finalists.
