Year 12 PE Studies Camp 2016

But all this fun comes with a price, as students are being assessed for two NCEA Achievement Standards, with seven credits in total on the line. That, and also the fact that during the trip, they will have no access to running water (except for a measly tap), electricity, and a flushing toilet. Students are expected to go low-key Bear Grylls on this one.

However, commendation should be given to the Year 12s and teachers going on this trip. Tremendous amounts of preparation took place for their camp, and a tremendous amount of trust from the teachers. Students had the responsibility as a group to acquire all their equipment needed (tents, gas cookers and cooking equipment, etc.), as well as strategise and negotiate a meal plan for the four days, and buying the food and ingredients they needed. They’ve had extensive preparations for any risks and emergency plans, ensuring the safety for everyone involved.

Overall, this trip is an incredible opportunity for new experiences and friendships, and will be an interesting one as well, as a great measure of responsibility is being placed on the students’ shoulders. Great thanks to the teachers who have organised this event, and good wishes to the students participating. May no one drown, nor fall into the long drop.
