Year 12 Peer Support Student Leaders have arrived!

Jannina Matanguihan and Isabella Tran

This year our 2025 Peer Support Leaders have been working diligently during their training sessions, covering such topics as self-reflection, team building and planning for the Peer Support programme. They will be responsible for providing a variety of essential skills, including communication, relationship and leadership skills and emotional and moral support for our Year 8s.

The role of our Year 12 Peer Support Leaders is to lead, by example, showing how to support and guide the younger generation while also building their confidence. This is demonstrated through qualities the leaders are learning, such as the key aspects of being “a friend,” fun-loving, showing integrity, being empathetic, sincere, respectful, nurturing relationship and fostering both mental and emotional growth.

One of the goals of a Peer Support Leader is to work with people who may be unfamiliar. This year, our leaders at Sancta Maria College came together with the goal of working ‘above the line,’ embracing a growth mindset-oriented leadership framework to encourage personal development and resilience. As Peer Support leaders, they are committed to creating an environment where every student feels valued while promoting a strong sense of belonging for all.

Year 12 Peer Support Session happen every week during homeroom time and there is weekly planning-feedback: feed-forward sessions to support the team.
