During the final week of school, our Year 7&8 debating teams took to the stage for the final ‘debate’ to decide the overall champions for 2024. Preparations started at the end of August which saw all the teams debating, with an overall winner ‘Team Twinkle’ (Sophia Carlos, Marcus Ely Apostol and Angelica Araos) set to challenge 2023 winners ‘All Stars’ (Cedric Ybanez, Adam Lynch, and Marcus Pang). With the stage all set and the crowds gathering the moot set from the house was ‘We believe sign language should be taught in schools’.
Team Twinkle (seen, left, in the image with their mentor) were affirming, and All Stars were negating.
Leader of the house, Bernadette-Rose Tominiko set the tone and order for the debate.
The winners were All Stars who convinced the house, that sign language should not be taught in schools. Well done both teams on a hard-fought debate.
