Twenty-one musicians from our Primo Orchestra, Light Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra were able to be part of the APO ‘Play in the South’, at the Vodafone Events Centre on 19 August. Many of these students have only started an instrument this year and found this a real challenge.
With the help of Mr Gibbs and other more senior players during rehearsals they became ready for the performance. Many made new friends within this event and learnt new techniques from the APO members.
The different instruments the students from the College played were the violin, viola, cello, flute and clarinet, with students ranging from Years 7 to 10. The students played four pieces with the APO: Beethoven’s Ode To Joy, Tchaikovsky’s March Slav, Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2 and Mussorgsky’s The Great Gate of Kiev.
Many thanks to Mr Gibbs for involving in this event, Beth Cohen for conducting and to the APO for the amazing experience of playing along with them.
