Young Vinnies Leaders’ Camp

‘Keep Watch With Me’ was the theme of the 2018 Young Vinnies Leaders’ Camp. Three of our school’s Young Vinnies Leaders were fortunate enough to attend this camp and to learn the essence of what it was to be an effective leader.

The weekend was filled with team-building activities, such as ABL, and activities which allowed every individual to figure out what type of person and leader they were. Following the theme, the leaders were asked to keep watch for how other leaders functioned, especially how they led the team – did they lead from the front, or did they lead from the back?

The theme also related to the charitable work of Young Vinnies, and leaders learned how to keep watch over their community, especially those marginalised by society. Held in Kokako Lodge, a short walk from Hunua Falls, the leaders were able to have a very tranquil and spiritually eye-opening experience, a way to guide their path as they lead their school groups through another year in service for Young Vinnies.

‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Matthew 25: 35-40
